ASPEGREN GARDEN
Experience the Aspegren Garden and its activities; take part in its history and traditions. We can offer you music and tales, crafts and tools as well as courses in gardening, cooking, traditional crafts and local culture.
The garden and the Pedersöre old home-stead Museum are situated in Jakobstad, by the eastern access road. The vicarage houses with the stone barn and the Aspegren Garden, surrounded by a stone fence, create a unique environment within the town.
The Aspegren garden was founded next to the Rosenlund vicarage by the Dean Gabriel Aspegren in the mid-18th century and was one of the first and oldest vicarage gardens established in Finland. The garden has now been restored according to the original plans and was reopened in 2003. Visitors are able to look at plantations typical for the 18th century, including some 70 different kinds of apples as well as current gardening information. The newly built orangery also includes Café Örtagården and its outdoor seating area, where visitors can have coffee. For groups it’s also possible to have lunch or dinner there according to prior agreement. Groups can also book a guided tour of the garden that will make their visit in Jakobstad seem more alive. Guided tours are available all year according to agreement. For groups: try our travel package Jakobstad’s ”Green Rooms”.
